Ahead of his July departure from the indestructible Broadway favorite Hamilton, Tony-winning star Leslie Odom Jr. has released a new music video for his recording of “Autumn Leaves.”
The man Broadway fans know as Aaron Burr ditches the muskets and wigs of Hamilton for a very swanky, very jazzy affair that looks like it’s set in an old-fashioned New York nightclub. sort of like a visit from Val, only way classier.
Odom Jr. recorded the jazz standard “Autumn Leaves” for his self-titled debut album, which was re-released this month. Speaking to Rolling Stone, he talked about what’s next in his music career after Hamilton.
“I’ve been picking up the pen and writing with some collaborators, so I hope to have an original song or two on the next album, but I’m not interested in only singing songs that I write,” he said. “It’s a pleasure of mine to dig through all the greatest songs ever written, pull out a song like ‘Autumn Leaves’ and give it a shot.”
